Value Adding Before Sheep Leave The Program

There is many ways that we can look at value adding without putting on a rustling piece of paper at the processing and manufacturing end of the supply chain as a lamb producer.

Our stud firstly is our biggest value add. Through improving the genetics we’re able to ask for more from our rams than you would without that traceability and the years of parentage and data collected. Don’t worry we thought about packing that in as the work load is huge currently.

Before anything leaves our place I want to have a think 6 months prior to see how we can add value to whatever class we’re getting out of our program be i:

  • wethers

  • CFA ewes

  • surplus young ewes

I want to add value to us but also to the buyer on the other end.

Today we have 335 ewe lambs and a couple that have broken their teeth for sale and with our stud rams there was one way to make a value add and it was joining them to sell. Unfortunately they’re station mated as we hadn’t pregnancy scanned them. That is the next goal for our surplus ewes. This is just an easy and assessable way (in terms of quality rams) for us to add better genetics to the lambs straight away for the end buy.
