New Year, New Lambs, New Grass
It's 2025 let's rip in!

ANNALARA WHITE DORPER EWESLETTER
Happy New Year from us at AWD. We know the work doesn’t stop over the festive period but it’s our goal to allow us to take that much needed break especially when it’s getting hot. As the summer has been it has been quite kind to us this time, well actually the last 4 years have been good. We’re at 48mm for the month already and has given us more options. If you’re looking for some clouds I’ll leave out a bucket or two for you.
This period is our manic period leading up to our ram sale. With data overload and adding videos and photo’s of rams into the mix it usually takes us a while to cool down after the sale.
AWD Ram Sale - Wednesday 19th February 2025
We have selected the rams that will be in our sale circa 110 this year including a handful of Ultra White Composite rams which are HUGEEE this year. We have goals that we want to hit and to get the sale to 150 top notched rams is our next in the next few years. Right now is an important time within shedding game as those that are looking over the fence now have one leg over. If you look at the size of our flock nationally we’re quite small, that just means there is plenty of growth to come. Higher numbers will see favourable into processors (we hope).
What’s happening on the farm
We’ve been busy planting some Premier Digit Grass, its a tropical that loves our type of soil (shit) and better soils too. We’re low pH levels here 4-5.5pH across the place. With 50ish Ha now added it will give us many more options at the end of this year. At 8-12mt dry matter we’ll run 8-10DSE in good times. Can’t complain about that at all. Come Autumn we’ll add our legume mix which is a serradella (King variety I believe) and some clovers.
Jack spoke to Richard Hayes on the Farms Advice Podcast might be worth a listen. See below.

This is our first Ewesletter for the year and we hope to continue these each week until the sale so that you can get a better understanding of what we’re doing and how we do it. It also improves our own processes along the way, a win-win scenario.
